JADEWALKING: VENICE

PERFORMANCE ART

What happens when an artist infuses details of the East into her already existing garments of the West … Laura Anderson Barbata impresses with stunning statement pieces that respectfully highlights and honors the Chinese history of menswear. Impeccably tailored these garments come to life with a performance by Brooklyn Jumbies who on stilts mesmerises as they stand tall, larger than life. A constant reminder why delighting audiences sprinkling moments of joy is the reason why art impacts and and can bring social changes.

The JadeWalkers is an adaptation of Laura’s original ‘Intervention’ series. A collaboration with Tsai-chun Huang brings a thoughtful examination into Hong Kong architecture. His sense of humour and research into masks results in a fanciful whimsical creation that captivates and charms.

MAY 11, 2025 1800 HRS. VENICE BIENNALE

Producing a spectacular opening performance for Hong Kong Pavilion — our aim is to "share joy & inspire" at Venice Biennale.

I think globally we need a little joy now more than ever, and in our show, Brooklyn Jumbies are dressed wearing‘blended’ Textile pieces by Mexican artist Laura Anderson Barbata + Head pieces by Taiwanese artist Tsai-chun Huang. We’re bringing a fun new perspective of Hong Kong to Venice!
